This a quick tutorial on lighting in Bryce. It starts with the light setup we created using the settings from the default lights in Poser. It's not a definitive guide and is certainly not very detailed. However, we hope it gets you started on using lighting successfully in Bryce to simulate radiosity and soft shadows.

This tutorial is on how you can turn a fractal into a terrain in Bryce from Metatools, although this concept can be applied to most other graphics programs. We're assuming that you've already spent time tinkering with Bryce, and if this is the case, this should be a snap. (By the way- this tutorial was created in Bryce 2 for Windows; this will work in Bryce 3D as well, you'll just have to adjust to the different interface.) We've included everything in this tutorial- the images found here, as well as the scene file we used for this tutorial in a ZIP file which you can open up in Bryce 2 and Bryce 3D so you can study it. Before we do anything else, let's take a look at the basics of what we're working with, shall we?

The purpose of this tutorial is to help you understand how to use the Deep Texture Editor in Bryce 4 a bit better by taking you through the construction of a new material with a height dependent colour. It's not a short tutorial but it's fairly easy to follow.
Good and varied materials make all the difference between a natural-looking picture and one that looks , well , a bit artificial.
To get there you can't avoid getting into the DTE and 'tweak' things to your taste : it's not as difficult to do as it looks at first.
